Salutations and Oh Hollo

Greetings! Alison Heikkila here. Today I have a cool shaker card that uses the "Oh Hollo" Sparkle Blend from Doodles Paper Playground. As you might be able to guess from the name, this Blend is filled with gorgeous, holographic sequins. Plus, I got to use one of the many images I've colored for The Daily Marker's 30 Day Coloring Challenge. I've accumulated so many of these, and I am always happy when I get to use one on a card.

I colored this beautiful gal from A Day for Daisies with Copic markers. Even though she's a little disheveled, she's still so glamourous. The colors in her gown worked really well with "Oh Hollo."

Look at the colors in that Sparkle Blend! I have always loved all things holographic, so this is a new favorite of mine. I love the mix of patterned sequins in it too. They're all very different from each other, but they work together really well. I happened to have a background that was gray cardstock with Pink Quartz Deco Foil and Sassy & Crafty's Bouncy Path stencil that worked perfectly. I cut a skinny oval into the piece and backed it with a fun patterned paper scrap that was in my stash. Around the edges of my card base, I applied VersaMark Ink and Rose Gold Tinsel Embossing Powder from Stampendous, It gave that extra bit of sparkle that the card needed, while tying everything together. My sentiment is from the Salty Ladies stamp set from CZ Design and Simon Says Stamp. I gave the stamp a curve when I inked it up to go with the curve of the dotted line from the stencil.

I love the quirkiness of this card. The expression on the gal's face, with the swooping (and shiny!) dotted lines of the stencil, plus the sequins? It's definitely a fun card. Believe

Anything Is Possible If You Believe. I absolutely love this sentiment. And what goes better with a sentiment like this? Rainbows, clouds, unicorns, holo, and you guessed it, a shaker!

For my project I am using Cloud Stencil from Lawn Fawn along with Distress Inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Carved Pumpkin, Picked Raspberry, Blueprint Sketch, and Wilted Violet. For my blending I am using the pretty rainbow colored Blending Brushes by Taylored Expressions. I am using a stamp set from Visible Image called Believe In Unicorns. I stamped the sentiment and image using my MISTI and stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and then used Gina K. Embossing Powder in Fine Detail Clear. I then created the infinity shaker with acetate and Oh, Hollo Sparkle Blend Sequin Mix! I adore this mix for so many different projects!

I really adore how this came out!

Head over to the Sparkle Blends Shop. Grab your favorites and be sure to check out the whole new release for April that is amazing!!!!!! And as always, take a look on the Doodles Paper Playground blogFacebook page and in the Sparkle Blends Fan Club on Facebook to see all the fun things going on!

 Freshly Squeezed

Who doesn't love an ice cold lemonade on a hot summer day? Well, we aren't quite to summer yet, but you can start early with the new "Lemonade" Sparkle Blends from Doodle Paper Playground's April 2021 release. Want a cold glass of citrus bliss? This blend has it all – from lemons to ice cubes and a lot of shimmer.

To capture this summer sensation, I created a lemony background by spraying different shades of yellow Distress Oxide Inks and some pearl shimmer spray from Brutus Monroe. Then I embossed it with a lemon embossing folder. I added some more shimmer with a Midas Touch Aqua Pen from Nuvo.

The stamp set is "Freshly Squeezed" from Kindred stamps. I used my favorite new Copic hair and skin tones on the lemony little lady. Her hair is W7, W5 and W4 and her skin is E25, E13 and E11.

Pour yourself some of these citrusy sweet blends by heading over to the shop and grabbing yours!

Using Empty Space on Stamps to Make a Shaker

Greetings! Alison Heikkila here. Today I am sharing a card that I made on my latest FB Live for Doodles Paper Playground. I decided to show how to take a stamp that has a good amount of empty space and turn it into a shaker. If you'd like to see the entire process, as well as some additional stamp examples, please go HERE.

The "Never Let Go" stamp set from Sassy & Crafty was the inspiration behind this tutorial. That heart is the perfect spot for a shaker, and I think it looks so pretty in the end. I looked through my Sparkle Blends and decided to go with Judy's Royal Shine, because I didn't want this to be a romantic card. The colors in that Sparkle Blend helped me decide what colors to use for the rest of the card. My background was done with Sassy & Crafty's "Lipstick Squiggle" stencil, clear embossing powder, plus Worn Lipstick, Salty Ocean, and Twisted Citron Distress Oxides.

Look at how pretty those colors are! I did pull out the large crowns and the clay bows from the Blend, as I didn't think they worked with this card. But that means I'll have plenty for a different card. Using the colors from Judy's Royal Shine keeps this from looking like a romantic card, which, as I mentioned, I wasn't going for. The hands were colored with Copics. My sentiment was pieced together using Sassy & Crafty's "Wet Noses & Sloppy Kisses" and "Just Chillin."

I really enjoy looking at my supplies to see what stamps I can turn into a shaker. It doesn't always have to be circles or rectangles....really look at your stash and see what has a good amount of space that can be cut away to make room for sequins. This heart was a great size, but you can definitely go bigger or smaller. Please be sure to visit the Sparkle Blends Shop on Esty to see the all of the available Sparkle Blends, as well as joining the Sparkle Blends Fan Club on Facebook. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Lemonade and Tequila

Hey Friends!  It's EK and I am playing around with a fun new blend of Sparkle Blends from Doodle's Paper Playground. I just love the bold bright colors of the Lemonade Blend, and how perfectly it pairs with distress oxides.

I created this card by smooching four different colors of Distress Oxide onto some watercolor paper. I used Fossilized Amber, Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed and Scattered Straw. I also sprayed and splattered the paper with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Spray.

The die cut that created the shaker hole was from Ellen Essentials. The fun tequila sentiment was from Rubber Cottage. The beautiful lemon half was from Penny Black and stamped in Scrapberry Brown Stains Ink.

I seriously love how the Lemonade Blend looks atop this bold yellow ink. Let us know in the comments below what you think. Until then, happy crafting.

 Making Waves

Hey Sparkle Blends fans! Today I am introducing you to "Ocean Beauties Sparkle Blends" from Doodles Paper Playground. This gorgeous blend is part of the April 2021 Release. This is another instance where the blend inspired the creation of the card. The color palette is one of my favorites.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 01.jpg

I started by coloring the mermaid from Whimsy Stamps. I laid the Sparkle Blends on my Copic chart so I could match colors as best as possible. This is where I really started to notice all the different shapes and colors in this blend. There are varying sizes of narwals, seashells, square and circle sequins in a variety of colors, sparkles and transparencies. But again, I was led by the gorgeous color palette.

Next I went to work on the background. I found inspiration from Sara Sherlock. She created a stunning underwater background that looked like light shining through the surface of the ocean. I tried to mimic this using similar colors.

I added a layer of purple swirls using the Flowing Swirl stencil from Sassy & Crafty. I splashed Pearl Aqua Pigment from Brutus Monroe after the entire panel was inked. And then built up layers of coral using the Ocean Scene die cut from Kindred Stamps. I stamped a sentiment from Lovely Legs - Be A Mermaid from Colorado Craft Company using Aquatini ink from Catherine Pooler.

After all these elements were finished I constructed the card. I cut several frames out of the blue paper to build up the double pane shaker window. I glued some of the sequins onto the acetate so they would look like they were floating when the card is standing and everything falls to the bottom. I adhered it to a 6" X 12' card base. The background was adhered onto another 6" X 12" card base that opened from the left. I placed it on top of the inside panel of the shaker card base to create a trifold. I wanted the shaker to lay on top of the mermaid to make it look like she was under water.

This was a really fun card to make. It was a process but I enjoyed creating each of the elements over a few days. It's been a while since I had an ongoing project that I didn't create in just one sitting. It definitely gave me a chance to enjoy the process and find different ways to make the Ocean Beauties Sparkle Blends shine. Don't forget to head over to the shop to grab yours.

Make A Wish - Gummy Bear Sparkle Blend

Make a Wish

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

For this card I decide to make an ink blended
background using this cute birthday candle stencil.
I picked out three ink colors that worked with my Sparkle Blend.
I love how this turned out!

I die cut the panel down and cut a star window for my shaker.

I stamped my sentiment in black so that it
would show up well on the background.

I added a layer of foam tape and filled up my shaker well.

I placed the panel on my card base and
added a few sequins to the front.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

For this card I used the Gummy Bear Sparkle Blend
This blend is so bright and colorful,
it also has these awesome little bears in the mix!
They are so cute!

2 FB Live Cards

Hello! Alison Heikkila here. Today I am sharing 2 shaker cards that were made during FB Lives for Doodles Paper Playground. The first, I made with a stencil, and the second, my husband Gene actually made with a stamp that he likes. I'm not going to get too much into the details, as all of the info you need is in the FB Lives. The links to my Live is HERE and HERE because FB decided to cut out on me part of the way in. The link to Gene's Live is HERE.

As I mentioned above, I used a stencil to create my shaker. I thought the new April Showers Blend was perfect with this older umbrella stencil from Dreamweaver/Stampendous. My cloudy sky was done with Distress Oxides and the Cloud Edger stencil from A Colorful Life Designs.

Here you can see some of the sweet little elements that are in the April Showers Sparkle Blend. I adore those little Kawaii clouds. There's also plain clay clouds, teeny umbrellas, and iridescent raindrops. If you'd like to see how this card came together, definitely check out the links at the top of the post.

Gene decided that he not only wanted to use this beautiful Butterfly Stretch stamp from Stampendous, but he wanted to make a see-through shaker card. He chose to use the Clearly in Love Sparkle Blend so that you can still see the butterfly easily. I love the stenciled background he made using VersaMagic inks and a Brutus Monroe stencil.

He colored the butterfly using Copics and Spectrum Noir Sparkle Markers, and Kathy Rac's "Color Plucking" method of coloring. You can see that when you open the card, the shaker is completely see-through and there's a sentiment on the inside of the card. It's from Stampendous' Amazing Woman stamp set and inked with VersaFine Clair ink in Monarch.

I think both of these cards are fun, and have a unique twist on shakers. I love that Gene joined me for another FB Live. I love when he gets to interact with the folks watching, and I think he did a stellar job on his card.  The sun will come out tomorrow

But in the meantime, let "April Showers" Sparkle Blends from Doodles Paper Playground brighten your day. With all the different adorable elements, there are many reasons to make you smile.

This cheery blend from the April 2021 release includes clouds, umbrellas, rain drops and lots of sunshine! It gave this dreary card the bright balance it needed.

blues, then I splattered water. Next I stamped the clouds with Alabaster ink from Brutus Monroe. I stamped the blue raindrops and puddles at the bottom in Chipped Sapphire Oxide Ink. Lastly, I pulled some elements from the "April Showers" Blend to add more shimmering rain. For this shaker, I used and exacto knife and hand cut out the cloud. The boots, colored with Prismacolors, are from Brutus Monroe. The sentiment is from a Stampin' Up set.

The cheery colors and elements really brightened up this card. You can get "April Shower" and many other awesome Sparkle Blends at the shop. Then you know the sun will come out because when your package arrives, it will shine!

Have A Fintastic Birthday

Happy Saturday Everyone! So I wanted to start out your weekend with something Fin-Tastic! Ok I couldn't resist. I am still playing with slimline cards and today I am going vertical. For this project I am using slimline dies from Queen and Co. for my card layers, along with a slim line paper pad for my patterned paper. I am combining that with a stamp set from Kraftin Kimmie called Oceans Of Love for my images and sentiment. I have colored up these fun friends with my Copics. For this shaker I am using a really thin foam tape that if you take off both sides of the adhesive backing, you can get the tape to bend, making it easier to create circle shaped shaker windows. Thank You Alison Heikkila for this amazing tip during your FB live the other night! I am using Ocean Beauties Sparkle Blends for my sequin mix for the three shaker compartments. There are so many amazing things in this blend!I even attached to the acetate on the outside of the shaker windows the adorable pink narwhals. I love them so much. I am also using a single sheet of acetate along with additional foam to pull this all together. Now I did use liquid glue to attach my top layer to my acetate layer. I have been finding it just gives me a little more time and wiggle room to get my layers in place better.

And here are a few close ups so you can get a better look at  this fabulous blend!

So, what do you think? I really love how this came out and will need to be adding some more slimline dies to my stash.

I do hope you enjoy this project and can't wait to see what you create!

Ocean Beauties

Greetings! Alison Heikkila here. I have a fun shaker card to share with you that uses the new Ocean Beauties Sparkle Blend from Doodles Paper Playground. This Blend is filled with such pretty colors, and not just shades of blue like you may have thought. There are even narwhals and mermaids in it!

The colors of this Sparkle Blend are what guided me through the process of choosing my elements. I found a cool Gel Press monoprint that wasn't quite finished to me, so I used Distress Glaze in Speckled Egg to finish it off and make it look like water. That's what I used for behind my shaker window. For my card front, I used a piece of cardstock from Echo Park's "Let's Be Mermaids" 6x6 paper pad. The colors were just perfect for this Sparkle Blend. Underneath that front panel, I die cut several pieces of bright blue cardstock to create my shaker panel, instead of using foam tape. I like that little hint of blue that you see when you hold the card at an angle.

Look at how pretty "Ocean Beauties" is! Those colors are so unexpected for an ocean Blend, but they work so perfectly together, especially with the color of those adorable narwhals! I used them, and some of the other colors in the Blend to help me figure out how to color my narwhal, which is from Lawn Fawn's Critters in the Arctic. I used the coordinating die too. My sentiment is from Kindred Stamps and stamped with VersaFine Clair Ink in Twilight. On my card base, I inked the edges with Dusty Concord, Spun Sugar, and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxides.

I love the unexpected colors of this card. The "Ocean Beauties" Sparkle Blend is so pretty, even if you didn't us it for an ocean themed card. I can see myself using this one a lot.
