Hugs: Alcohol Ink Shaker

Hello! Today I have a fun shaker card that could be used for Valentine's Day, but doesn't have to be. It uses the new "Lovestruck" Sparkle Blend from Doodles Paper Playground, plus a cool alcohol ink front panel.

I had this fun "Roundabout Hearts" die from Poppy Stamps that I hadn't used before, and I knew it would be perfect with the "Lovestruck" Sparkle Blend. Unfortunately that die doesn't seem to be available any longer, so I can't link it up. Feel free to use a regular circle die if you plan on making this card yourself.

You can see in the photo above, all of the pretty sequins and added embellishments in the "Lovestruck" Sparkle Blend. See the acrylic rounded heart? Or the little cherubs? And of course there's glitter sequins in here too. It's a really pretty mix of pink, gold, and white.

I created an alcohol ink panel using the "Gumball" and "Gilded" inks, mixed with some Blending Solution from Ranger on poster board paper. After it was dry, I die cut the Roundabout Hearts from the panel. I die cut it again with gold glitter paper from Recollections, and trimmed off the hearts so that I could glue the to the main panel, slightly offset. I also die cut my "hugs" sentiment (called Big Hugs Sugar Script), from Birch Press Designs from the same glitter cardstock. I backed my shaker panel with a soft pink cardstock, and mounted everything on to a white card base that I flicked Rose Bud Fireworks! Spray on to.

I really like the simple layout of this card. It doesn't look basic, but that's because of that fun top layer of alcohol ink, plus the glitter cardstock. If you'd like to see me make something like this, in real time, I'll be making an alcohol ink shaker card during my FB Live tomorrow on the Doodles Paper Playground Page at 8PM EST. I'll be using different colors and a different Sparkle Blend that YOU can help me pick out! I hope you'll join me. Meanwhile, why not join the Sparkle Blends Fan Club on FB and share your sequin-filled projects with us there? Love Letters

Hey Everyone!  It's EK and today I am playing around with one of the recently released Doodles Paper Playground Sparkle Blend today to make a masculine Valentine's Day Card.

I started by covering a piece of watercolor paper with Candy Apple, Fired Brick and Black Soot Distress Oxides.

I sprayed an splattered the cardstock with some silver shimmer spray and let dry.

I trimmed up the cardstock and die cut the center of the card with a The Art of Paper die.

I prepared the cardstock to become a shaker card and filled it with the Love Letters Sparkle Blend mix. I stamped on the background of the A2 card frame some falling hearts from a Neat and Tangle stamp and assembled the card. I also added a sentiment to the card frame from Concord and Ninth.

To finish the card I added a few extra sequins around the sentiment and called the card done.

I really like the masculine feel of this card and the almost space feel of the background.

Make sure you pop over and check out all of the new Doodles Paper Playground's Sparkle Blends. Until then, happy crafting.

I Love You

 I Love You

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

For this card I use this gorjuss girl #60
I choose her because the spots on her dress look like hearts.
After I stamped it though, they looked more like triangles so
I used a microperm pen and made them look more like hearts.

I die cut all my pieces

I wanted this to be an overlapping shaker window.

I filled the windows with sequins and used a backing on this
shaker so I could have a colorful background to my shaker
pieces instead of the solid black of the card base.

I placed the shaker element on the card base..

I wasn't going to use a sentiment on this card but
decided that this little speech bubble would be cute.
I white heat embossed it on the base panel.

I added the cute girl and a patterned paper flag.

I added some sequins to the front panel,
You know I love to have sparkle everywhere!

I loved how this turned out, so much so that I made a second card!

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

For this card I used the Clearly in Love and Lovestruck Sparkle Blends.

Giant Sequin Rainbow

Hey everyone!  It's EK.  Did you know that little girls like rainbows? I mean really like rainbows...and they don't have to be so little to love them. Today I am finally placating my 12 year old daughter and creating this giant (and yes I mean 8x10 giant) rainbow on wood panel for my rainbow obsessed kiddo.

To create this giant rainbow, I pulled seven (plus one) packages of Sparkle Blends sequins from Doodle's Paper Playground.

Now I will warn you, I tried to cut a corner on this project, so it didn't turn out how I had hoped or planned, but my kid loves it and I thought it was still worth sharing despite my personal disappointment in it.

I started with an old already painted wood panel. This was painted up for another project that I just never got around to. But I really thought all of these blues and teals would make the perfect background for a rainbow.

Using a water soluble white pencil, I sketched a rainbow onto the panel.

Using some craft glue, I added the 'violet layer' using the Rosey Gold Sparkle Blend.

The 'indigo' layer got a layer of With A Bang Sparkle Blends.

For the 'blue' section, I added Baby Shark Sparkle Blends, and Oh Christmas Tree for the 'green' section.

I pulled out the Birthstone Collection Citrine Sparkle Blends for the 'yellow' row and Candy Corn for the 'orange'.

Finally I adhered Ladybird Sparkle Blends for the 'red' row.

At the bottom of each rainbow I added a rainbow I sketched in a cloud using my water soluble pencil.

I filled the clouds with Gold Rush Sparkle Blends.

Here is where I messed my project up. Instead of using Golden Clear Tar to coat the sequins, a product that would have dried clear and shinny, I used some Liquitex Matte Medium. I used it all the time on art journals and mixed media projects and it always dries clear. However, I don't used it this thickly, and come to find out when it is thick, it dries cloudy.

Despite the cloudiness, I still think there is something really special about this project. And more importantly, my rainbow loving 12 year old things it is perfect.

White the project may not be perfect, I hope it makes you think about using your sequins in unique ways.

Something Different

Do you ever find that you have a favorite crafty item that you really love and don't necessarily want to use up. Well I have been working on some different things to do with my Sparkle Blends in a way that I can keep them but also use them. So for today's project, I made this super cute Resin Heart!

I have used the new blend called Rainbow-tastic for this project!  I just love everything about this blend! Have a look.

Now I will say there is definitely a learning curve with using resin and not all resins are created equal. I will keep you all updated on this as I go with some other projects coming soon! But I definitely need to get more of this mix while it is still available!

So head over to the Sparkle Blends Shop. Grab your favorites and be sure to check out the whole new release before they are gone! And as always, take a look on the Doodles Paper Playground blogFacebook page and in the Sparkle Blends Fan Club on Facebook to see all the fun things going on!

I do hope you enjoy this project and can't wait to see what you create!

Let's Party!

Hello! Have you seen the newest release from Doodles Paper Playground? This release features Hot Cocoa and Sparkle Blends that are perfect for the early-in-the-year celebrations. There is also the "It's a Party" Sparkle Blend which is appropriate for any birthday, wedding, shower, etc. That's the Blend I opted to use today to make a fun birthday card that would be great for anyone.

I recently purchased the Pinwheel Party Bundle from The Greetery because it's full of fun, easy to work with, and, just like the "Let's Party" Sparkle Blend, it works for anyone and many types of celebrations. I inked up several of the pinwheels using Memento Inks. Each pinwheel uses the same color twice....once with heavy inking, and once with a lighter touch.

The Pinwheel Party Bundle comes with a sentiment stamp and die set, which I chose to use to create my shaker window. I used the shadow die to create the window out of striped cardstock, and then I stamped the sentiment on simple white cardstock underneath. The "Let's Party" Sparkle Blend is made mostly of white and black sequins, with opalescent clear and a smattering of larger, brightly colored sequins in the shapes of cakes, balloons, and confetti.

I was a little worried that there would be too many stripes, but the large window, the varying colors, and the different angles of the stripes, keep it from being too overpowering. It's fun, and definitely screams party to me.  Tomorrow, why not hang out with me and Amber, the owner of Doodles Paper Playground a FB Live on 1/21/21 at 8PM EST on the Doodles Paper Playground FB Page. We'll be making a tulle shaker card, using the Pinwheel Party Bundle, so you'll get to see it in action. Meanwhile, why not join the Sparkle Blends Fan Club on FB and share your sequin-filled projects with us there? You can also head over to the Sparkle Blends Shop on Etsy to see all of the available Blends. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day!

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

First I die cute the base panels.

My top base panel is pale pink stripes and I love to use pink and red together!
I used this Nuvo mica mist to create a splattered background.

Layered the base panels.

I stamped this sentiment from Simon Says Stamp set Hello Beautiful.

I used this cute heart circle die from Poppy Stamps.
It made a great window!

I laid out the sequins and then placed the shaker window.

I added sequins to the front of the card.
I love adding elements from the shaker to the card front.

And this mix has elements that glow in the dark!!

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

For this card I used the Love Letters Sparkle Blend.
It is such a classic blend of great Valentines colors.
