Using Black on a Holiday Card

Hello! Alison here. My card for today was created because Amber, the owner of Doodles Paper Playground challenged me to make a holiday card using the "Dragon Glass" Sparkle Blend which is entirely black. Challenge accepted!
I originally thought that I would go super-goth with the card, but then I thought it would be fun to do lots of metallics and make it more elegant than goth. Though I may still do that on a future card. I used a couple of older ornament dies from Stampendous to make 2 shaker windows. The ornament tops were done by applying embossing ink and silver embossing powder to a scrap piece of cardstock, and after it melted, I die cut the tops.
I used a "Happy Holidays" stencil (also from Stampendous) and inked it with VersaMark and sprinkled the same silver embossing powder on to it. I love the shine! Around the edges of my top layer, I added even more VersaMark ink and sprinkled on the "Seasonings" embossing powder, which is a favorite of mine. Do you see all of the different colors in it? It's even more beautiful in person! If you ever try this powder, I highly recommend heating it from underneath, so that the large, chunky granules don't fly off of your cardstock.
Behind my shaker window, I didn't want to just use black cardstock. I wanted more metallics. So I squirted some Golden Glitz and Silvery Shimmer Delicata Re-inkers on to a Gelli Plate and mixed them a bit with a brayer. Then I laid my black cardstock on top and rubbed it to apply the color. I love the end result! And it really makes the Dragon Glass Sparkle Blend stand out. In the photo above, you can see the unique shapes, sizes, and styles that are in it.
There is a LOT of shine on this card, so it was tough to photograph. It looks better in real life, but I think you get the idea.

This is definitely not a traditional holiday card, and that's one of the reasons why I like it so much. The sparkle and shine are another reason. What products do you use to make your holiday cards non-traditional? Or, do you prefer to stick to the classics? Be sure to head over to the White Rose Crafts shop to see all of the Limited Edition Sparkle Blends from Doodles Paper Playground that are currently available. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Little Boo Shaker

Greetings! Alison here. Today I have a TWELVE window shaker (using six Sparkle Blends!) to share with you, and I hope you think it's as adorable as I do. I recently went to an event with Mama Elephant in NYC with my husband and I bought some of their newest stamps and dies. We had an amazing time. My card today uses Little Boo Agenda, which was previously released. I couldn't wait to use it.
Just look at these adorable ghosties! There are even more in the stamp set that I didn't use on this card. But don't worry, I'll use them on something soon. When I first saw the Grid Window cover die, I knew it was absolutely perfect for shaker cards. And the "Agenda" stamps (basically teeny images that are great for planners as well as cards) fit so well within the windows.
I die cut the Grid Window with gray cardstock, and I also cut a sheet of white craft foam with it to make creating the shakers easier. I used Tear It! Tape from Imagine (which is 1/4" wide) to adhere all of my layers together. After I had colored my ghosts, I began to place them and choose my Sparkle Blends from Doodles Paper Playground. I really love how the two little ghosts above turned out.
There are so many beautiful Sparkle Blends to choose from, but only two of the ones I used today actually fell into the "Halloween" category. That means you can really stretch the Blends you may already have on hand to make them work for many occasions. In the photo above, you can see Orange You Glad, Green with Envy, Dragon Glass, and Mardi Gras Parade.
The other two Sparkle Blends that I used are Trick or Treat and Something Wicked. Although it takes some time to put the individual Blends into each shaker window, the ghosts (and other Agenda stamps) don't take long to color, so the time evens itself out.
I colored the ghosts with Zig Clean Color Markers, and my background was done with Distress Oxides in Mowed Lawn, Twisted Citron, and Lucky Clover.
I really love this card, and I can't wait to play with all of these elements in different ways very soon. I have two other "Agenda" stamp sets from Mama Elephant, and I know that they'll be perfect with this Grid Window and Sparkle Blends. And of course, I love how this cover die showcases the many Sparkle Blends I used on this card. They all stand out, and I don't think they are overwhelming because i was careful to not overfill the windows. Be sure to visit White Rose Crafts to see all of the currently available Sparkle Blends. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Make A Wish

Make A Wish

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I used the Critters Ever After set from Lawn Fawn
I stamped out my images and colored
 them with copic markers
and cut them out with a die.

On the castle, I layered the door and two of the roofs to give it a little more dimension.

My bottom base panel is just a plain
panel and on the top panel
I created the window for my shaker and
used a cloud die on the side.

I place a strip of striped washi tape
along the side of the base panel.
I placed the dragon and a few glitter cloud outline die cuts.

I used my standard double layer of foam tape on this card.
I measured out my sequins.

Placed my top panel. .

Added the castle and another little cloud die.
I also added a sentiment to the top corner and a few single sequins to finish off the card.

I used the Dragon Glass Sparkle Blend on this card. . . I love all the different shades of black!

Leave a Little Sparkle

EK Gorman, DDP, Dragon Glass a
Games of Thrones may be over, but the dragon glass is not.

Hey Everyone, It's EK back with another Guest Designing post and I want to make sure you know that you can pick up your own bundle of Doodles Paper Playground's Dragon Glass Sparkle Blends, and I thought I would play around with it and the very cute Dragon and Bird stamp set from Wild Rose Studio over at White Rose Crafts.

I just didn't feel like making a shaker card today, so I tried a little something different.  So I started with a piece of 13 Arts Aqua Flora Collection  paper pack.  I adhered the dark watercolored printed paper to an A2 card frame.

IMG_6523
I then took some thick crafting glue that dries clear and added a thick layer around the edges of the card.

IMG_6524
I then poured the sequins all over the card, pressing the blend into the glue gently with my fingers.

I shook off any excess sequins and moved a few around to create a really cool frame of bling.

I then colored my dragon and fussy cut out the image.  I adhered it with some double stick tape to the center of the card.

Finally I added a sentiment sticker to the card and set it aside to let it dry.

Let me know if you think this new blend of sequins looks like 'dragon' glass.  Until then, Happy Crafting.

Happy Birthday Shaker Tag

Happy Birthday Shaker Tag

  ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I stamped my images and colored them with copic markers

I used the Ready, Set, Snow shaker add on from Lawn fawn
and also colored it with copic markers.
I used a single layer of foam for this tag.

I stamped some stars on the back ground of the shaker window,
dumped in my sequins and added the backing.

I placed the happy birthday banner on the front,
a few bats and some candy corn.

I used the Dragon Glass Blend for this card.
I love the great shapes in this mix!
