White Rose Crafts March Sketch Challenge

Its the first of the month, and that means a brand new Sketch Challenge over at White Rose Crafts--and a new sketch challenge means a new chance to win a $15.00 e-gift card to the store!

To kick things off, I've got a sweet shaker to share with you today, featuring this great sketch!

I started by pulling out the extra fun and super sweet Ice Cream Parfait stamp set from Woodware UK and my Copic markers (which I haven't touched in far too long!). I made the mistake of not thinking about my color palate before I got started, and happened to luck out that I had ordered the two Sunset & Sunrise plaid & polka dot paper packs by Pink & Main with my last order, because they worked perfectly with my odd color choices. I also realized it has been a LONG time since I created a shaker card--which, if you know me (and the fact that I own Doodles Paper Playground: Sparkle Blends), you know that's kindof cray cray! Long story short, I decided this sketch would be perfect for a simple, circle shaker.

I began by coloring up the 3 ice cream images, umbrella and straw from the stamp set with my copics and fussy cutting them right on the outline. Then I assembled my shaker by cutting a 2.5 inch background circle from a piece of blue violet, watercolor print paper from the Wild Rose Studio Festive Florals paper pack & stamped the "Stressed spelt backwards is desserts" sentiment from the stamp set in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. Next, I cut 9 stitched circle frames from 110# white cardstock, which I adhered together with Zig 2 Way Glue pen on top of the background circle into a nice, thick shaker box. I cut a final frame out of one of the pretty purple and blue plaid designs from the Sunset paper pack, and a circle of clear Judikins Window Plastic. I selected the Doodles Paper Playground Juniper Berries Sparkle Blend, and added about half a teaspoon to the shaker box, before adhering the acetate and plaid frame with Kaisercraft 1/4 inch Double Sided Tape to complete the shaker.

I chose a cornflower blue, top folding card base from my stash, and then cut a 4x5.25 panel of chunky plaid print paper from the Sunrise paper pack using a wonky stitched rectangle die from my stash. Next, I cut a large X stitched fishtail banner out of purple polka dot paper from the Sunset paper pack, layering it onto a piece of white cardstock and trimming it out with scissors, so it had a 1/16 inch border.

I began assembling my card by mounting the pink and yellow plaid panel, centered on the blue card base, and the fishtail banner, centered horizontally and flush with the top fold of the card, using double sided tape. 

I added the finished shaker to the center, top third of the card usinga a combination of doubles sided tape and Zig 2 Way Glue Pen. 

Using a kraft knife, I cut slits in the yellow and blue ice cream image to insert the straw and umbrella through, so they appear to come out of the ice cream. Next, I adhered all 3 images, in an eye pleasing triangle formation, using 2 Way Glue Pen and glue dots from my stash. 

I wanted to give a touch of sparkle and shine to my colored images, so I added a generous wash of Wink of Stella clear shimmer pen to the chocolate sauce, blue and yellow sunday cup and black raspberry ice cream. Finally, I gave the chocolate sauce, sundae cups, sprinkles and cherry a coating of Glossy Accents for lots of gorgeous shine. 

I love to continue the design on the inside of my cards, whenever possible, so I added two of the cute ice cream images in one corner and a scattering of stamped sprinkles using Versafine Clair Monarch ink to finish off the card.
