Hang In There With Sparkle Blends!

Hi Everyone! It's Judy. Do you love pandas as much as I do? Then this new sequin mix called You're Pand-tastic is for you! And this time I did a little something different. Check it out!

So I decided to create a full panel shaker. This project uses no foam tape so for mailing it does have a slimmer profile. I started with a cloud stencil from C C Designs called, Cloud Stencil. I used Catherine Pooler Fiesta Blue Ink with my blending brushes to create the sky. Next I used a Die-namics Die from My Favorite Things called Scenic Safari. What I did was use this die to cut a sheet of paper to create a stencil for my grass layers. Then using Catherine Pooler Lime Rickey Ink and my blending brush I created the grassy part of the background. Then I used a stamp set from Whimsy Stamps called Panda Butt, and the matching die set which is also the same name for my trees, panda, and sentiment. For the trees and sentiment I stamped with Catherine Pooler Eucalyptus, Lime Rickey and Garden Party, and used Copics R20, C1, C3, C5, C7, C9 and 100. I also used green metallic cardstock with an embossing folder from Darice called Vine Background.

Now here is the fun part. I cut my layer of acetate so that it was an inch larger in both directions than the panel with the scene. I then scored it to be the same size as the panel. I then used Scor Tape on the back of the panel and peeled the of the side of tape, adhering the acetate to the panel on three sides. 

I then added my shaker mix and sealed the last side. I then attached this layer to the metallic green layer and finally attached the whole thing to the card base. I really adore how this came out, and check out all the fun elements in this mix, like those cute panda faces!!!!!

Fireworks at Coney Island

Greetings! Alison here. I am writing this post on behalf of my husband Gene, who created this card. He had the idea a couple of weeks ago, for the kids, him, and myself to have an evening of card making together. I needed to make some samples for the June Sparkle Blend release for Doodles Paper Playground, and he thought it would be fun for the family to work together and help.

I recently received the Boardwalk Dreams stencil from Brutus Monroe, and he immediately wanted to work with it. Gene has been crafting with me more frequently and he's been experimenting with a lot of tools and techniques. So playing with this stencil was going to introduce him to some fun things. He said the stencil reminded him of Coney Island, which is only about 30 minutes from us.

He knew he wanted fireworks, so I pulled out an old Dreamweaver Stencil that had several on it. Then he decided that the Stars & Stripes Sparkle Blend was the perfect one to use on this card. He sprayed the Boardwalk Stencil with 2 different Fireworks! Sprays from Imagine and flipped them on to the card base that he had blended with Distress Inks. Then he applies VersaMark ink through the fireworks that he wanted to use, and chose some embossing powders from Stampendous to make them shine.

He picked through the Stars & Stripes Sparkle Blend to see which components he wanted where, and chose a smattering of stars and assorted sequins to apply on the card. I love the stars in the fireworks, and how he accented the Ferris Wheel with a few sequins too. This Blend is all red, white, and blue, so it's perfect for anything patriotic or summery.

Gene came up with the entire concept himself, and I think it looks amazing. I am really proud of him for doing so many different techniques (ink blending, embossing, stencil flips, etc.) all on one card. I taught him what things he could do with each item he wanted to add, but ultimately, he did everything himself...and he had fun doing it! I started with die cutting my base panel and the shaker window.

I added the acetate and a double layer of foam tape.

I stamped the sentiment right on the card base so that it can be seen in the shaker area.

I laid out my sequins and placed the base panel.

I used this cute panda from Lawn Fawn, obvious choice with this blend!

I added a few sequins to the front to finish it off!

I really love this blend and I love how this card turned out.
